Twelve children from various villages have been rescued in Abia State by the Police Command from a couple, Sunday and Blessing Emebo.
According to DSP Maureen Chinaka, the spokesperson for the Abia State Police Command, the couple was arrested on May 19, 2025, at an alleged illegal and unregistered motherless babies’ home operating from their residence on Ikot Ekpene Road, Aba.
She explained that the operation was based on credible intelligence received by the command. The rescued children, aged between six and fourteen months, were found in the apartment and taken to safety.
DSP Chinaka further stated that Sunday and Blessing Emebo are currently being questioned at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and will be charged in court once investigations are complete.
The children have since been handed over to the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs for proper care.
The Abia State Police Command reiterated its commitment to fighting crime and urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid leaving children in the care of unfamiliar individuals.
