An Islamic cleric, Kabiru Ibrahim, has been sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of his client, Lukman Adeleke, in Osun State.
The verdict was delivered by the Osun State High Court sitting in Iwo, where Ibrahim faced charges of conspiracy, murder, and theft, in violation of Sections 324, 319(1), and 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 34, Laws of Osun State.
Justice Lateef Adegoke, in his ruling, stated that the prosecution had established its case beyond a reasonable doubt. As a result, Ibrahim was found guilty and sentenced to death by hanging for murder and an additional seven years’ imprisonment for theft.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Justice’s Information Officer, Opeyemi Bello, the case was prosecuted by Abiodun Badiora. He revealed that the late Adeleke had consulted Ibrahim as a spiritual advisor and informed him of his plans to purchase land. Ibrahim reportedly instructed him to bring the money for an overnight prayer before making the purchase.
However, Adeleke was reported missing shortly after his encounter with the cleric. Following a search, his family discovered that he was last seen when he visited Ibrahim for the prayer session.
