Nigeria teenage star Samuel Chukwueze says he’s hopeful of making his
La Liga debut for Villarreal in the near future following the
resumption of the 2018/19 season.
The former Arsenal target joined the Yellow Submarines last season and
quickly rose from the under-19 team to the team B following an
impressive season which ended with him scoring over ten goals for
Villarreal’s cadet teams including numerous assists.
Chukwueze took the Segunda division play-offs by storm with a superb
showing for the B team of Villarreal and he was rewarded with a spot
in the first team as well as a new contract at the club.
After being called up for pre-season with the senior team, Chukwueze
was hopeful of starting the season with the first team but wasn’t
listed for their opening match of the campaign. However, he’s more
determined to get his senior debut and believes it will be sooner
rather than later.
“My goal this season is not just to make my senior debut for
Villarreal this season, but to remain part of the senior team,” the
u-17 World Cup bronze boot winner began.
“Right now I’m training with the reserves and also the team B and I’m
working hard and learning from the coaches. I remain focused and
believe I’ll make my senior debut soon.
“I’m very happy with the way everything has been going since I joined
Villarreal. I started with the under-19 team and I was promoted
straight to team B without even playing for the team C. I’m glad the
coaches are impressed with my performance, I’m working very hard and
hope to make it to senior team very soon,” Chukwueze concluded.
19-year-old Chukwueze joined the La Liga side after a failed move to
Arsenal and later Porto. At Villarreal he progressed from the U19s to
the B team in just three months and at both levels he has looked real
good.
The club have reportedly opened discussions with his agent with his
buyout clause set to be increased to €10m as they aim to keep off
interest from clubs who have been lining up to snatch the left footed
former Diamond Academy ace.
