The Nigerian Air Traffic Controllers Association has stated that its two-day strike, which began on Tuesday, will be temporarily halted.

The strike was called off, according to NATCA President Abayomi Agoro, to allow for a meeting with Musa Nuhu, Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

On Wednesday, Agoro informed reporters that the meeting will start at 2 p.m. in Abuja, and that the outcome would determine the next course of action.

To force home its demand for greater welfare for its members, air traffic controllers restricted traffic flow and departure times on domestic flights at the four major airports in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Kano by 20 minutes.

On Tuesday, domestic flights suffered minor difficulties in their normal operations when NATCA began an industrial action before suspending it.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency has reassured airspace users and the general public that the Nigerian airspace is secure for efficient and cost-effective air travel.

In a statement, NAMA Managing Director Fola Akinkuotu said, “We also regret any inconveniences created earlier.”
