There were so many missed opportunities in the game and what would have been the tie breaker in the 8th minute came when Moses Effiong went past his marker but saw  his shot saved by the Akwa United goalkeeper, Adeyinka. 


Aside the missed opportunities in the game especially from the home team, the away side had a good chance when they hit the cross bar in the 44th minute.

In the 53rd minute, Akwa got the lead through Charles Astshimene for his 2nd goal of the season with an assist from Ndifreke Effiong.
In the 63rd minute, Gabriel Wassa cleared Ndifreke’s effort from the line to keep the score at 1 – 0.


Etboy Akpan would be sent off for a few seconds after for second yellow card offense after he was trying to cover up for his team which was facing a counter attack by Plateau United.


Akwa United tried not to concede afterwards and did a perfect job.


During the match Samuel Amadi missed a lot of chances and had too many misplaced passes while Olisa Ndah was in control of the defense as he intercepted passes and won aerial duels throughout the encounter. 


Plateau United coach, Abdul Maikaba suggested that his team may have goalscoring problems. 
“We have a problem with finishing. This is MatchDay 11 and we will have to continue working on it,” Maikaba said. 


Kennedy Boboye of Akwa United called it a game of two halves. 


“We didn’t play well in the first half, but we went in at the break and talked to ourselves. 


“We took our chance when it came and this win is good as it takes us away from our current position.”
