Meanwhile, from the opposition side, Golden Chioma, who is loyal to the party’s Magnus Abe faction and withdrew from the chairmanship contest at the last minute, called the exercise and the results a sham. Dr. Abubakar Idris, Chairman of the Rivers APC Congress Screening Committee, who was delegated from the National Secretariat, announced that Beke received 1,575 votes out of a total of 1,615 accredited delegates, defeating Chizy Nyeomasila with eight votes and Japhet Ogbueri with zero votes, while 32 ballots were voided. Except for the position of Women Leader, where Beatrice Amoubi received 1,601 votes to defeat Koko Tonye (eight votes), all other candidates were returned uncontested, with Sam Sam Etete Gwom elected State Secretary and Chief Chris Finebone regaining the office of Publicity Secretary. In the presence of observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission, the election saw accreditation and open secret balloting. In a short statement on behalf of the new executives, Beke promised to do all in his power to guarantee that the party wrests power from the incumbent PDP in the state and occupies Government House, Port Harcourt, by 2023. However, Golden Chioma, a last-minute boycotter, voiced displeasure with the result of the exercise, stating, “I believe the congress is not appropriate at this moment.” “We have also protested to our great party’s National Secretariat that there was no ward congress in Rivers, and I believe that you cannot build anything on nothing and expect it to stand.” There can’t be a legitimate state congress in Rivers since there was no ward congress.“I and others petitioned the National Secretariat, claiming that individuals had seized the state’s ward congress.”The party then explained how they thought the situation should be handled. Those issues remained unresolved.Everything was hacked by a faction. We petitioned the National Secretariat, and a delegation was sent to confirm our request. “They discovered that our petition and concerns were real and correct.”So we’re waiting for the National Secretariat to make a decision.Participating in the state congress after having protested beforehand would be foolish,” Chioma said.
