Football Serie A SPORTS GIST BUFFON RE-JOINS PARMA AFTER 20 YEARS AWAY By Admin Posted on June 17, 2021 2 min read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin By Oduola Farouq A. Gianluigi Buffon has returned to Parma, the club where he began his brilliant career, after a 20-year absence. The 43-year-old, who left Ennio Tardini in 2001 for a world record price for a goalie at the time, has returned full circle and signed with the Serie B club. Following his second exit from Juventus after two seasons as Wojciech Szczesny’s backup, the 43-year-old Buffon has completed his return to Parma, the club where he grew up. Parma, which was demoted to Serie B at the end of last season, has allegedly signed Buffon to a two-year contract. The return’s objective is clearly nostalgic, but Buffon also has a mission: to get the team he adores back into Italy’s top flight following a disastrous 2020-21 season. Buffon joined Parma’s youth team when he was 13 years old and made his Serie A debut when he was 17 years old. During his six years with the main squad, he made 168 games in the top division, winning the Coppa Italia and the UEFA Cup in 1999. Among his many achievements are ten Serie A titles, one Ligue 1 title, and the World Cup.
