The Presidency has stated that the prerogative to appoint or sack service chiefs resides in the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari.

The statement comes in response to a motion of the Senate on Tuesday asking the President to relieve the service chiefs of their appointments due to issues of insecurity in several parts of the country.

The Presidency in a statement released on Tuesday evening stated that “The Presidency notes today’s Senate resolution, and reiterates that appointment or sack of Service Chiefs is a Presidential prerogative. President Buhari, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, will do what is in the best interest of the country at all times.”
