Nigerian forward Murjanatu Musa capped a remarkable debut season in France on Sunday by helping Basket Landes secure a historic domestic double after defeating Bourges Basket 53-50 in the deciding Game Three of the Ligue Féminine de Basketball finals.

The victory handed Basket Landes their second consecutive French league title and the third championship in the club’s history, adding to the French Cup trophy they had already won earlier in the season.

Musa delivered another strong performance in the title-deciding clash, contributing eight points, nine rebounds and two assists as Basket Landes rallied from a third-quarter deficit to clinch the championship before their home fans at Espace François Mitterrand.

The tense encounter remained evenly balanced for much of the contest, with both teams tied 15-15 after the first quarter and again level at 27-27 at half-time.

Bourges Basket edged ahead 40-36 heading into the final quarter, but Basket Landes responded with a decisive late comeback.

A crucial three-pointer from Marie Pardon with 17 seconds remaining proved decisive as Basket Landes held on to seal the victory and trigger celebrations among the home supporters.

Leïla Lacan led the scoring with 19 points and was named Finals Most Valuable Player, while Musa finished as the team’s third-highest scorer in the decisive game.

The Nigerian international maintained consistent form throughout the finals series, recording eight points and nine rebounds in Game Two after posting eight points, three rebounds and one assist in the opening game.

Musa, who joined Basket Landes ahead of the current campaign, has now completed an impressive first season in France, playing a key role in the club’s successful defence of the league title and its domestic cup triumph.

Brazil star Neymar has been recalled to the national team for the upcoming World Cup, marking a dramatic return after almost three years away from international duty.

The 34-year-old forward was included in a 26-man squad announced on Monday by Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti, with his selection drawing loud cheers at a gala ceremony in Rio de Janeiro.

The Professional Game Match Officials Limited, PGMO, has admitted that Manchester United’s second goal in Sunday’s Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest should have been ruled out for handball.

The controversial moment occurred during United’s 3-2 victory when forward Bryan Mbeumo appeared to control the ball with his arm before teammate Matheus Cunha converted the rebound into the net.

Referee Michael Salisbury initially awarded the goal before VAR official Matt Donohue advised him to review the incident on the pitchside monitor.

Despite the review, Salisbury upheld his original decision, ruling that the handball was accidental and did not warrant the goal being disallowed.

The decision gave Manchester United a 2-0 lead in a match they eventually won 3-2.

However, the referees’ body later acknowledged that the goal should not have stood.

According to a report by BBC Sport on Monday, PGMO chief Howard Webb contacted Nottingham Forest to explain the officiating error.

Webb reportedly stated that “while there could be justifiable reasons to judge this was not handball, a better decision, and one that would be expected, is for it to be disallowed.”

Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White criticised the decision after the game, insisting the ball clearly struck Mbeumo’s hand.

“From the angle I was standing at, it looked like he caught the ball,” Gibbs-White said.

“Whether he scores or not, for me it was still a handball.”

Former Premier League assistant referee Darren Cann also agreed that the goal should have been overturned.

“While I think that it is commendable to see a referee stick with his original decision, I believe that football’s expectation is Mbeumo controlling the ball, especially when it leads to a goal, outweighs the possible deflection off Mbeumo’s hip,” Cann told BBC Sport.

“Mbeumo does control the ball and while he’s not the scorer himself, football’s expectation is for that to be disallowed,” he added.

The incident marked only the 17th occasion in seven Premier League seasons that a referee rejected a VAR recommendation after conducting an on-field review.

The 30-year-old Grammy-nominated artiste explained that he sees marriage as a mutual agreement rather than a one-sided gesture, adding that he did not feel it was necessary for either partner to “beg” the other.

He shared this during an episode of the Timeless Podcast, aired on the Nix Network YouTube channel, where he said, “I did not go down on my knees when proposing to my wife because I told her it was a mutual decision. We are not begging each other to be with each other.”

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the alleged use of law enforcement agencies against social media users following reports that a Twitter troll was sentenced to two years imprisonment over false claims involving the daughter of Nigerian singer, Adekunle Gold.

In a series of posts shared online, Sowore accused the Nigeria Police Force of increasingly serving as “private enforcers” for wealthy and influential Nigerians, warning that the criminalisation of online speech poses a serious threat to freedom of expression and democratic values.

The activist also mentioned celebrities including Simi, Adekunle Gold and Ayra Starr while alleging that critics and internet trolls have faced cybercrime-related actions over comments made on social media platforms.

According to Sowore, online trolling, jokes, criticism and internet banter should not attract prison sentences, stressing that many internationally recognised celebrities would be unable to deploy law enforcement agencies against critics in countries with stronger protections for free speech.

Referencing old tweets allegedly made by Adekunle Gold against former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012, Sowore questioned why individuals who once benefited from open expression would allegedly support the use of the police and the courts against ordinary Nigerians over social media posts.

He further criticised sections of the judiciary over what he described as “outrageous punishments” linked to online speech, insisting that the right to freedom of expression must apply equally to celebrities, politicians, activists and ordinary citizens.

Shine Rosman has spoken about the impact of losing her father at the age of 16, revealing that many people gave up on her following the tragic incident.

Speaking in a recent interview with media personality Chude Jidenowo, Rosman disclosed that the loss was traumatic to the point that she became suicidal.

She recalled that amid the grief, some people predicted that she would end up becoming a prostitute since her father was no more.

Rosman said she used the setback and the financial struggles that followed as fuel for her ambitions.

She said, “After I lost my dad at 16, many people said to me that I would end up becoming a prostitute and get pregnant out of wedlock.

“Grief can push a person to the brink of suicide because it is one of the most difficult experiences to overcome. My difficult upbringing shaped my determination to strive for a better life every day. I often wonder whether I would have been this ambitious if I had grown up in a more comfortable environment.”
