After a mistake involving Atletico Madrid, Liverpool, and Manchester United, UEFA will conduct a new Champions League last-16 draw at 2 p.m.

The original draw was declared void as a result of a “technical error,” according to UEFA.

The problem came when Atletico Madrid finished second in Group B and their probable last-16 opponents – all group winners – were put into a different pot, but United were left out.

In the last-16 draw, teams that met in the group stages are meant to be kept apart. United did not play Atletico Madrid in the group stages, but Liverpool did, and Jurgen Klopp’s team was incorrectly placed in the pot to meet Atletico, who were then drawn against Bayern Munich.

United had been paired with Paris Saint-Germain in the initial draw, while Liverpool had been paired with Salzburg.

“A material error occurred in the draw for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 as a result of a technical malfunction with the software of an external service provider that notifies the officials as to which clubs are qualified to face each other,” UEFA stated in a statement.

“As a result, the draw has been ruled null and void, and it will be completely redone.”
