Simeone, whose previous contract was set to expire in June 2022, will now lead the Spanish champions until at least 2024. Simeone’s backroom staff has also signed new three-year contracts with the club, including Oscar Ortega, Pablo Vercellone, Nelson Vivas, and Hernán Bonvinvini. In May, the Argentine guided Atletico to their 11th La Liga title, finishing with 86 points, two more than Real Madrid in second place. Simeone has the most wins of any Atlético manager, with 316, and he became only the third manager in club history to win LaLiga on multiple times in May. Last season’s victory made it eight trophies for the Argentine since his arrival midway through the 2011/12 season, which is also a club record. His new deal may see him complete 12 full seasons on the sidelines, as he remains the longest-serving coach in La Liga (and 13 seasons overall).
