Certified Lover Boy and Donda, who were both released just five days apart, have already become inextricably linked.

The tone and subject matter of each record are vastly different, but because of the mounting tensions between Drake and Kanye West as their releases collided this summer, fans instantly began drawing parallels. Which album is superior? Which one will hold up better over time? Which one will sell the most?

In terms of sales, it appears that the question has already been answered. According to predictions, Drake will sell more first-week copies than Kanye (albeit Donda did not benefit from a full week of tracking because it was released on a Sunday).

However, as most of us are aware, sales aren’t everything. The history of these efforts will eventually be determined by the quality of the actual music (and how well it ages over time).

Because the albums are so dissimilar, no comparison is ideal or totally fair. CLB and Donda will be on repeat for most fans in the coming months and years. But, given how competitive the artists have been throughout the rollout process, it’s only logical that comparisons will continue to be drawn.
