Football SPORTS GIST TRANSFER DORTMUND IDENTIFIES WERNER AS POTENTIAL ERLING HAALAND REPLACEMENT By Admin Posted on September 16, 2021 2 min read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Farouq Oduola A. Timo Werner of Chelsea has been named by Borussia Dortmund as one of four possible successors to Erling Haaland if and when the Norwegian international departs the club. Haaland, 21, drew interest from all around Europe during the transfer season, but Dortmund held on to him despite a €75 million release clause that comes in next summer. Werner, a Germany international, may be a “surprising answer” for Dortmund, according to SportBild. Former RB Leipzig striker Werner has surfaced as a target for Dortmund executive Michael Zorc, who has been charged with finding a replacement that fits coach Marco Rose’s approach. However, the Chelsea striker is estimated to earn €20 million per season in the Premier League, implying that a wage drop would be required if he moved to Signal Iduna Park. Bayern Munich have also been linked with a deal for Werner, who has seen his opportunities at Stamford Bridge reduced with the arrival of Romelu Lukaku. Werner scored 28 goals in 34 Bundesliga appearances for Leipzig, but he couldn’t replicate that form in the Premier League, scoring just six goals in 35 appearances.
