Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun has announced that there will be no gatherings for “prayers and partying” ahead of Eid-El-Kabir celebrations in the state.

The governor said this during a press briefing on Wednesday.

According to him, the decision was reached following the counsel of the Ulammah and the resolution of the National Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs(NSCIA) in Ogun state.

He, therefore, urged residents of the state to “celebrate solemnly with our families as the Almighty Allah (SWT) grants us the grace to celebrate more ileyas in our lifetime.”

In a related development, Abiodun disclosed that anyone who is caught moving around without a facemask is liable to six months imprisonment under an extant Regulation and State Law.

He said, “All current measures and restrictions will remain in place for the general public.

“These include: 10 pm-4 am daily weekday curfew; total weekend lockdown; transport sector restrictions; decontamination and physical distancing; restaurants’ takeaway service allowance; measure compliance by industries; and wearing of facemasks, which if flouted is punishable by up to 6 months’ imprisonment under an extant Regulation and State Law.”
