This was made known in a statement released by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Agency on Wednesday. The Acting Head of the agency, Margaret Adeseye explained that the explosion occured as a result of de-canning of an accytelene gas by one of the victim shop owners in an L-shaped row of 27 shops. The incident left six shops badly damaged and 21 others partially destroyed at Inuwa Muhammed Street, adjoining Gbolahan Primary School on 7 Ashafa Afariogun Street, of the Ajao Estate. Although, the statement did not disclose any casualties, it admitted that five persons were rescued, two of whom had sustained injuries. It read in part, “Isolo Fire Station was swiftly mobilized to salvage the situation, and on arrival recovered three adults, two females and a male while two adult males with various degree of injuries were rescued alive and have since been taken to the hospital.” “The Fire, which emanated from the explosion, severely burnt two cars, a Toyota Camry and Kia saloon cars with registration number LSR 825 FA and EPE 212 CA respectively, a Tri-cycle and some shops”. It added that the collaboration of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASEMA, LASAMBUS, SHEMU, LASTMA, Red Cross and the Police from Ajao Estate Division helped to save the situation. The statement also noted that further investigation would be carried out to prevent such incident from happening in future.
