On his 74th posthumous birthday, Google honors Oliver De Coque.

On April 14, 2021, the world’s most famous search engine honored legendary Nigerian musician Oliver De Coque with a Google Doodle in recognition of his contributions to the Nigerian music industry.

A Google Doodle is a rare, temporary change to the logo on Google’s homepages to celebrate holidays, events, accomplishments, and significant historical figures.

The doodle was launched on Wednesday in honor of late De Coque’s contributions to the development of Nigerian music and the music industry. Today, April 14, 2021, would have been De Coq’s 74th birthday.

What is Oliver De Coque’s background?

He was a Nigerian guitarist who was also one of the continent’s most successful record producers. Oliver Sunday Akanite was born on April 14, 1947.

De Coq’s debut album, Messiah Messiah, was released in 1977, and some sources say that he released over 70 works between 1977 and his death in 2008. He’s also thought to be a descendant of Ogene, the fast-paced, bell-based Highlife.

Oliver de Coque had four wives and twelve children by the time he died.
