Government College Ibadan Old Boys’ Association ‘1985 set’ presented tables and chairs for 200 students.

This was the continuation of the 30th Graduation Anniversary and Reunion Ceremony of the class set.

The presentation took place in the School Premises on Saturday 2nd October, 2021.

The current School Principal, Mr Adewale, was present at the event to receive the 100 pairs of furniture, to seat 200 students; that was presented to the School.

He received it with great pleasure. He said, “We appreciate this more than anything for now.”

“The tables and chairs will relieve us from so many problems of getting students coordinated because, they will no longer be seen loitering around in the name of going to the Library, because they couldn’t get a convenient seat in the classroom.”

“I just want to thank you very much, God bless you all.”

However, a speech was presented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Alhaja A.B Atere, humbly represented by Mr. Bola Ibrahim.

The speech reads “On the commissioning of 200 pairs of furniture donated by the ‘1985’ on Saturday, 2nd of October, 2021.”

“It gives me great joy and honor to witness this auspicious occasion.”

“On behalf of the State Government, I would like to appreciate all members of the association for their individual and communal contribution towards the development of Education in the State. May Almighty God continue to bless us with the good health and resources to do more for our children.

“Your association is strategically placed to compliment the government’s effort in our quest to deliver quality education to the children.”

“The Appointment of teachers, constructions and maintenance of classic buildings, engagement of services of security guard, provision of toilet facilities, maintenance of law and orders in our Schools and many other similar contribution have assisted the Government in the development of Education in the State.”

“I would also like to strongly implore the Government College Ibadan Old Boys’ Association (GCIOBA), in the State to find a way to strengthen the association and unite all members of all levels for the realization of the Subjective of the School.”

“Leaders and Members are advised to act with the details of the association’s constitution, as this will prevent unnecessary crisis that will slow down the realization of the association’s goals.”

She mentioned that Education is a very important part of the society and that if there were students that are coming to class and could not concentrate, then the efforts will be wasted. Also, she added that the government had sent about 300 pairs of furniture to the school.

“I must say that, very recently, the government appointed 692 education officers and I’m sure that about 103 of them were posted to GCI. So on behalf of the GCIOBA ‘1985 set’, I would say that this set of furniture is for the use of our students and for the benefits of mankind.”

“God will continue to be with our old boys’, Congratulations.”

The handing over of the furniture was done by the Class Set Chaiman, Mr. Oluyinka Thomas.

Other dignitaries present were Mr Oloyede, Principal of Junior School one (1), Mr Idowu Adekunle, Principal of Junior School two (2), and many others.

The Gala/Award night which took place at the Hidden Treasure Hotel in Ibadan started at about 7pm on Saturday.

The event was filled with lots of exciting activities as the Old Boys’ chorused some of the ‘Sing Song’ which brought back the memories of being a student of the great GCI.

There was a lot to eat and drink as some of the Old Boys’ took pictures, while others were chatting and hugging.

Meanwhile, during the early hours of the day, there were several other activities that took place, such as the football match, health talk and many other sporting activities.

The match started at about 8am, between the present students of GCI and the 1985 sets.

The match ended in 2-2 draw between both teams.

Afterwards, there was a health talk on ‘How to maintain good health at old age’ which also included Medical checkup. The lecture was presented by Dr. Seyi Dagunduro who is also a member of the class set.
