The incident which occurred on Monday morning around the newly constructed Pen-Cinema Bridge at Agege was narrated by Olusanmi’s friend; Modupe Bewaji on her Facebook wall. She wrote “A friend of mine on FB Omoloye Moses Olusanmi called me this morning around 7am for help.I got dressed and was about to step out to go meet him there as he told me that he had been detained by LASTMA officials since 5.30am.His offense was that he didn’t use a seatbelt and I asked him why he said he would pay the fine but that they were not even attending to him.He then called me back that he had paid them, I was mad as hell and told him to get names and pictures.“Money meant for LAGOS state government been diverted by what do we call them now? This was his experience this morning!I am sure there are many people they have extorted and not remitting the money into the coffers of LASG. Please continue to share till it gets to the right authorities.” MY HORRIBLE ENCOUNTERED WITH POLICE AND LASTMA. 22/02/2021 I left home for work at 4:50am this morning. Usually, I pick some of my colleagues that live along the same axis while going to work. So I picked a colleague at abule egba inward abbattoir road and we were going. As we were approaching Agege new bridge ,a Toyoto Camry car popularly called “mussle” overtook us and stopped suddenly. Then four men on mufti came down with guns in a getapo manner and asked us to bring our phones which we did without any argument. Then their leader asked two of them to entered the car and asked me to turn back. At that point we thought they were either armed robbers or kidnappers. I drove with 3 of my colleagues and 2 armed “men” in the car while the other three members drove behind us .We were taken to abbattoir police station which gave us some respites and assurance that they were not armed robbers. Getting to the station, the leader of the team slapped my colleague that joined us at Abule egba and threatened that he will kill all of us.Next they searched the car,our bags and pockets, they didn’t find anything incriminating.we told them we are colleagues that we all work with the same company. They took our ID cards,my drivers license, bank debit card,HMO card and my BRT card.Later the leader asked us to open our phones,at that point,he pulled the trigger and shot into the ground. Eventually after all the search, intimidation and harassment, they asked us to go that they thought we are kidnappers (one chance). I’m psychologically affected especially thinking about the scene when the officer shot into the really hard finding my composure. FROM POLICE TO LASTMA. So we left the police station (abbattoir) at 5:25am and drove off. There was a little traffic approaching ASHADE junction trying to connect Guiness. Then a LASTMA officer by name AKINLABI stopped me for not using seat belt. Honestly I didn’t fastened my seat belt after leaving the police station, apparently I was still in shock about my experience with the police. I told him sorry and shared with him my experience with the police . He pulled me over, asked for the car key, asked me to come down then he gave the key to another officer who drove us to where they called their office at Agege. The place is adjacent Agege Local government council office, beside Mudashiru Obasa complex. When we got to their office,The officer who drove my car, dropped the key with another man who was not wearing uniform and left.We were there till 7:30am nobody talked to us meanwhile, they were bringing in more cars.So I approached the man in mufti who was holding my car key,I asked him what is the fine for not using seat belt ? He said #20000.I asked him again who is in charge of payment? He said he was not he one that arrested me that I should wait till the officer(AKINLABI) who arrested me comes. At 8:25am ,officer AKINLABI came and told me my fine is #47000 with 2 weeks training before my car would be released. He then said, Alternatively,I can #10000 and #1,300 administration charges to a woman who was also not wearing uniform. At that point I gave an option of transfer which they declined. I had to go to zenith bank to get cash from ATM.Eventually I paid #11,300 cash and my car was released. The guy in red collected the money .My senior colleague is the one standing in front of him with nose mask. Then the guy took the money to the woman sitting inside the Marwa. Apparently, they were using that Marwa as a makeshift office.
