Football SPORTS GIST IBRAHIMOVIC TO MISS AC MILLAN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE CLASH AGAINST LIVERPOOL By Admin Posted on 1 week ago 3 min read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Farouq Oduola A. Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss AC Milan’s Champions League match against Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday after being left at home as a precaution due to an Achilles’ tendon issue. On Sunday, the Swedish attacker made his first appearance since May 9 and scored against Lazio. At a press conference on Tuesday, Milan manager Stefano Pioli stated, “Ibrahimovic would have started. It is possible to get an inflamed tendon after four months of rest. “He was alright, but he was a little uneasy after the match [on Sunday]. He tried [to train] this morning, but he was in agony, so there’s no need to take such a risk at this point in the season. “Tomorrow’s game is crucial, but we have so many more ahead of us.” When asked if a four-month absence meant Milan should start imagining life without the striker, Pioli replied, “I picture Milan with Zlatan 100 percent.” It’s something he wants, something I desire, and something all of his teammates want. Ibrahimovic’s goals aided Milan’s return to the Champions League for the first time since 2014, as the Rossoneri finished second last season. Former Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud is in contention to start after missing Sunday’s match against Lazio despite testing negative for coronavirus after a spell of isolation. The France international had started the opening two games of the season for Milan, scoring two goals in a 4-1 win over Cagliari. Milan were dealt a difficult draw in their return to Europe’s top tournament, with Atletico Madrid and FC Porto as their opponents in Group B. Ibrahimovic was set to face Liverpool for the first time since his late goal at Old Trafford in 2017 rescued a 1-1 draw for previous club Manchester United. In the Champions League, he has faced Liverpool twice, losing in the quarterfinals with Juventus in 2004-05 and the round of 16 with Internazionale in 2007-08.
