On Friday, the House of Representatives passed the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) conference committee report, voting 3 percent in favor of host communities in oil-producing areas.

Following a tumultuous session on Thursday, the House voted to put the matter on hold.

Members of the Minority caucus, on the other hand, shouted PIB, PIB, PIB as soon as they walked out of the Chamber.

Hon Tahir Mongunu, Chief Whip, presented the report as a subsection.

The laying of the conference report on the PIB, according to Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, was done according to House procedures.

“I need to explain the rationale behind the filing of this report,” he says. I paused the laying of this report yesterday so that we can get to the Senate and see how we can settle the issue.

“However, by the time we arrived in the Senate, they had already reached a conclusion and made a decision. As a result, there was nothing we could do.

“It is up to us to consider the report and decide whether to accept or reject it. This PIB will not follow in the footsteps of others. Our Colleagues are not present, which is disappointing. If there are any changes that need to be made, they will be made in the future.”
