O. Mr Babajide Sanwo-olu, the Governor of Lagos State, has urged for greater integration among the southwestern states and the country as a whole to promote performance uniformity, transparency, accountability, and economic development. This call was made at the Oriental Hotel, Lekki-Epe Expressway, during the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Nigeria South-West Zonal Town Hall meeting, which was hosted by the Lagos State government for the validation of the Country Self-Assessment Report (CSAR) on the ongoing Second Peer Review involving the National Governing Council, APRM National Secretariat, States, and local governments. The APRM evaluation process brings together public and private sectors, including critical sectors, both virtually and physically to assess member states’ performance in four areas: democracy and political governance, economic management and governance, corporate governance, and socioeconomic development. The Governor, represented by the State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Sam Egube, recalled the recent Southern Governors Forum in Lagos, saying that the Forum’s platform allowed for continued interactions to harmonize views for national development and continued support for local government. “We recently hosted the Southern Governors, and in the platform, Governors from all over the country continued to communicate in order to harmonize our perspectives for national development,” he stated. We are not anti-local government; rather, we believe that Nigeria has to improve, and that a framework that works ideally for Nigeria and Nigerians is required.
