Sterling Bank, the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), and the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), among others, are supporting the four-day training session, which began on Monday at the Leola Hotel in Maryland. Mr. Solomon Bonu, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, advised the program’s recipients to take advantage of the state’s tourism industry’s potential, noting that the development portends great opportunity for them. He also recommended the program’s beneficiaries to take advantage of the State Government’s tourism funds, which are available to help practitioners in the tourist and hospitality industries across the state. Bonu appreciated Goge Africa’s efforts in passing information on tourism development to youths and prospective entrepreneurs, while stressing that the government will continue to support and encourage capacity development in the tourism sector. Mrs. Nneka Isaac-Moses, the Managing Director of Goge Africa, stated, “The program is in line with our aim to build capacity for 1,000 tourism practitioners by 2025.” “New travel regulations prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic are reviving the tourism business around the world. As a result, there is no better moment than now to upgrade human capacity in the tourism business worldwide in accordance with global best practices.” Mr. Shina Atilola, Divisional Head, Retail and Consumer Banking, Sterling Bank, challenged the attendees to identify their expertise and be unique in projecting the Nigerian tourist business to the outside world. Ecotourism and Sustainable Tourism, Tour Packaging, Characteristics of a Successful Tour Guide, Social Media and Tour Marketing, Marketing and Sales of Tourism Products for Beginners, Introduction to Taxation for Entrepreneurs, Financial Literacy, and Scaling Tourism Business in a Pandemic were among the topics covered by the participants.
