Amos Danjuma, 36, appeared in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday for allegedly paying a herbalist to falsely accuse a lady of stealing N50,000. Danjuma, whose address was not revealed, was charged with false accusation, violation of peace, and unlawfully trial by herbalist by the police. The defendant, on the other hand, has entered a not guilty plea to the charge.ASP Clement Okuiomose, the prosecutor, told the court that the defendant committed the crime on August 27 and September 7 at about 6.35 a.m. in the Isasi area of Lagos. According to Okuiomose, the defendant summoned a herbalist to do a task known as ”Osanyin” to invoke ”Juju” and allege that Ms Bukola Oba stole N50,000. The defendant, he claimed, acted in a way that was likely to create a breach of peace by grabbing the complainant by the neck and demanding that she return the money she had stolen. He said the offense was in violation of sections 168, 93, and 127 of the Lagos Criminal Code of 2015. The defendant was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in the same amount by Chief Magistrate Fadaunsi Adefioye. The surety must live within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed, according to Adefioye, with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government. Adefioye postponed the hearing till September 30.
