In recounting the events that led to the death of seventeen-year-old Babatunde AbdulRahmon, the Director-General revealed that the fatality occurred due to a breach of safety precautionary measures.

He claimed that the adolescent employee was hired and immediately exposed to mechanical and electrical manufacturing equipment without any training or personal protective equipment. He died as a result of the equipment he was operating.

Also, he emphasized the significance of having a tested electrical wiring system, appropriate safety signage, good housekeeping, and a clean environment free of violations and hazards to workers’ lives.

The Director-General, underlined that a culture of safety first should be a human and community duty, imploring organizations to place lives above monetary profits and embrace best practices.

Mojola, established a zero-tolerance policy for safety violations, warning that harsh actions would be taken against any organizations proven to be responsible, but also promising that existing safety laws would be enforced.

In order to make Lagos a safer place for its citizens, he advised residents to report events and infractions to the Lagos State Safety Commission on a regular basis.
