NPFL MatchDay 25 Roundup: Pillars go two points clear after edging Enyimba 2-1

Mixed results signposted MatchDay 25 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) played across 10 venues on Sunday.

In Kaduna, Kano Pillars came from a goal deficit in the first half to beat Enyimba 2-1 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium.

 Victor Mbaoma scored early for the People’s Elephant after the 8th minute but Rabiu Ali levelled scores for the Sai Masu Gida side from the penalty spot on 52nd minutes while Ifeanyi Eze scored the winner on 76th minutes to turn the match around for the hosts.

Kano Pillars moved two points clear off second placed Akwa United.

Plateau United and Lobi Stars recorded wins on the road in Gombe and Uyo respectively. Plateau United defeated bottom placed Adamawa United 2-0 to revive their title ambitions while Dakkada slumped at home 1-0 to Lobi Stars. 

Katsina United continued their revival in a 2-1 home defeat of Nasarawa United, inflicting a setback to the Solid Miners quest for a continental ticket. 

Akwa United in Bauchi gave up their lead twice to drop two points against Wikki Tourists after they were held to a 2-2 draw. It was a match the Promise Keepers fought to remain atop the log but a 70th minutes equaliser for Wikki denied them the victory. Akwa United are now unbeaten in 15 games in the league.

It continued to be a good run for Church side, MFM since the start of the second stanza as they went six games unbeaten after being held to a draw in Enugu by Rangers International. MFM have also just conceded only once which was in this fixture game against Rangers  that ended 1-1.

In Okigwe, FC IfeanyiUbah and Abia Warriors shared the spoil in an Oriental derby that ended in a 1-1 draw. Patrick Egeonu put the Anambra Warriors ahead in the 10th minute but Chukwuemeka Obioma 25th minutes equaliser ensured the spoils was shared.

Ugochukwu Ugwuoke’s saved the Flying Antelopes the blushes of a home defeat with an 81st minute goal that cancelled out Chimezie Izuchukwu 67th minute opener.

Sunshine Stars extended their winless streak to 18 after losing 2-1 to Warri Wolves.

In other results, Wasiu Alalade hit a brace in 48 and 84th minutes to earn Kwara United a 3-0 win against Jigawa Golden Stars. Nosir Afeez scored the other goal for the Afonja Warriors.

Rivers United left Owerri with a point after a 2-2 draw with Heartland. Shedrack Oghali scored a brace for the Pride of Rivers State, cancelling out goals from Chijioke Akuneto and Chukwudi Nwaodu.
