The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has banned all flights coming from Nigeria due to an increase in cases of the new Coronavirus variant Omicron. In a circular to all airlines operating in Saudi Arabia, the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) confirmed the flight suspension. This comes after the United Kingdom and Canada implemented travel bans on Nigeria and placed the West African country on their respective red lists. According to the Daily Trust, the Saudi government has put a ban on flights from Nigeria to curb the spread of Omicron in the kingdom. The ban on flights from Nigeria, according to the source, will affect travellers planning to visit the Kingdom for a lesser Hajj. Due to the incident, an official at the Kano Airport told the newspaper that a circular had already been issued ordering all lesser Hajj trips to be cancelled. “Yes, it is true because a circular was issued requesting that all Lesser Hajj flights be cancelled and that no other flights from Nigeria be scheduled until further notice. “I believe they are following the lead of other countries, such as the United Kingdom, in preventing the virus from entering the kingdom,” he stated.
