"No doubt, Wikki proved a hard nut to crack initially but the players were able to dig deep to break their resilience especially with the firepower of our attacking force which were able to convert the chances."

There was no respite for Wikki Tourists one game after forcing our Usman Abdullah as technical director. Wikki were hammered 5-1 in Katsina on MatchDay 20 and that defeat was followed up by a home loss to Nasarawa United the following MatchDay. This triggered the exit of Abdallah

On Sunday in Jos with their interim helmsman, Isa Adamu in charge, Plateau United were merciless in a 4-1 drubbing of the Tourists, making a third consecutive defeat since the start of second round games of the season.

Plateau United leading goal scorer,  Ibrahim Mustapha gave hints of the possible outcome when he struck just three minutes after kickoff. He hit a sublime shot from a difficult angle to register the first goal.

In what looked like casting doubts on Plateau’s intent, a relentless Wikki replied within a space of six minutes through a Jibrin Abubakar free-kick that left keeper Adamu Abubakar stranded for the equaliser.

The equaliser stunned Plateau United but it also would mark what was to be the game’s turning point as the home side opened up from all angles annexing dominance to regain the lead after

17 minutes. It  was Mohammed Zulkifilu that tapped in from close range after keeper Alladoun spilled Amos Gyang corner kick.

Zulkifilu had his brace on the 55th connecting perfectly Daniel Itodo through pass to put the ball beyond the keeper for his side’s third of the day.

Wikki made spirited efforts to come back in the game but were thwarted by their inability to make good some goal scoring chances. A big culprit was Promise Damla’s  glaring opportunity on the half hour mark.

Oche Ochowechi would add the icing on the cake with a sumptuous delivery in added time as he connected Abba Umar pass in the box and shoved off two defenders only to deceive the keeper with a feign before slotting into the yearning net for the fourth goal.

Coach Isa Adamu on his debut for Wikki believes there is room for improvement on the side. “Though this is my first game for the Tourists I believe we can improve from this game  having realised our mistakes as we return for the midweek game on Wednesday.  Mind you, Plateau is a good side with experience which was exhibited today.”

Abdu Maikaba in his reaction commended the efforts of his team to overcome the initial scare of the visitors to seize control of proceedings.

“No doubt,  Wikki proved a hard nut to crack initially but the players were able to dig deep to break their resilience especially with the firepower of our attacking force which were able to convert the chances.”

Plateau United will be away to Heartland in the midweek encounter as the search for the maximum points on the road continues for the Highlanders.
