Football SPORTS GIST POLICE TO INVESTIGATE DORTMUND’S JUDE BELLINGHAM AFTER HIS ‘MATCH FIXING’ COMMENT AGAINST REFEREE By Admin Posted on December 6, 2021 3 min read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Farouq Oduola A. German police are investigating Jude Bellingham’s accusations against referee Felix Zwayer after Borussia Dortmund’s loss to Bayern Munich. Bellingham slammed Zwayer’s performance in Dortmund’s 3-2 defeat, which came after the referee denied Dortmund’s requests for a penalty, only to award Bayern a penalty for a Mats Hummels handball. Robert Lewandowski stepped up and scored the game-winning goal against his former team. Bellingham told ViaPlay after the game: “What do you expect when you hand the biggest game in Germany to a referee who has previously fixed matches? “For me, it wasn’t [a penalty]. He [Hummels] is not even looking at the ball and he’s fighting to get it and it hits him. “You can look at a lot of the game’s decisions.” Dortmund manager Marco Rose was also sent to the stands after criticising Bayern’s penalty ruling in the 77th minute, which came after a VAR review. Bellingham was referring to Zwayer’s six-month ban handed by the German FA in 2005 as a result of a match-fixing scandal. Zwayer defended his decisions to reporters, saying: “It was a typical corner kick situation. “I notice in the game that it’s about Hummels’ touch. For me, the question was whether the arm was stretched away from the body or not. It was unclear whether his arm was pushed towards the ball in real time. “I double-checked it with [VAR officials] in Cologne, and then I double-checked the arm position. “The video assistant checked Hummels and determined that he was holding his arm away from his body in an unnatural position. A criminal complaint has been filed, and the case has been transferred to the Dortmund public prosecutor’s office, which will decide whether or not Bellingham will face criminal charges, with a decision due later this week.
