Cristiano Ronaldo has said his final farewell to his Juventus teammates and will miss Friday’s training session as he prepares to leave the club.

On Friday morning, the 36-year-old spent an hour and a half at Juve’s Continassa training field, emptying his locker and saying his goodbyes to the players before they walked to the pitch for a training session.

Manchester City are in talks to sign the 36-year-old after his representative, Jorge Mendes, reportedly told Juventus on Thursday night that he no longer wants to play for them.

Ronaldo is in the final year of his contract in Turin, and any suitor will have to pay a €25 million (£21.3 million) transfer fee, which could be a major stumbling block, especially given his £500,000-per-week wages at the Allianz Stadium.

A formal bid for Ronaldo has yet to be received by Juventus. There is still some way to go before a deal can be done and time is limited to complete a deal before Tuesday’s transfer window deadline.

He was not part of City’s summer plans, but he is now being considered after the Premier League champions were unable to sign England captain Harry Kane from Tottenham.

The 36-year-old wants to play at the highest level for as long as possible, but not everyone at City believes he is the right fit for the team.
