To launch metropolitan fibre optics in schools The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has reiterated his commitment towards revitalizing the education sector, providing conducive environment for teaching and learning across all schools within the State. Governor. Sanwo-Olu made this pledge at the flag off commissioning ceremony of school infrastructure projects executed by his administration in commemoration of his 2nd year in office Anniversary. Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu examined that education empowers a child with necessary knowledge and set skills to actualize potentials and maximize opportunities in life adding that the education sector is critical to the growth and development of any society. The Governor while addressing the gathering today at Akintan Junior Grammar School, Surulere after commissioning blocks of classrooms and other facilities in four public schools, enthused that the face of Lagos State is changing rapidly with globalization and technological advancement and there is urgent need to prepare the future leaders for the challenges ahead stressing that actualizing 1,097 projects, covering 970 Schools is to further fulfill his mandate of the THEMES Agenda for a Greater Lagos. According to the Governor, “our government ensured prompt construction and rehabilitation of 322 dilapidated public schools, while 87,000 dual composite units of furniture were supplied to primary and secondary schools; we are flagging off these school infrastructural projects to deliver 300 classrooms including 7 new hostel blocks across the schools in the State”. In his words, “This administration is convinced that teaching and learning can only take place effectively in a conducive environment, this explains our commitment to the provision of new structures and the rehabilitation of existing ones” Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu identified that metropolitan fiber optics will be launched in schools to provide internet connectivity for students to enhance their learning adding that the pilot will commence with 100 schools. He concluded his remarks by assuring parents of an improved standard of teaching and learning in all schools, thereby reaffirming is vision towards making Lagos State an education tourist destination. The Chairman, House Committee on Education, Hon. Okanlawon Sanni, commended the gradual and steady progress of Mr. Governor towards proferring solutions to challenges of the education, stressing that he keeps to his words towards improving every sector in the State. Hon Okanlawon assured the State Government of the support of the legislative arm towards the Education Sector, as it is a collective responsibility. Earlier in her welcome address, Honourable Commissioner for Education Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo pointed out that in less than two years of Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu in office, the education sector has witnessed huge transformation in the provision of schools infrastructure, teachers welfare, enhancing teaching and learning with the use of technology among other critical needs. While speaking, the Commissioner noted that this efforts is a gurantee of how bright the future looks for every child in Lagos State, highlighting that these projects were distributed across the LGA’s and LCDA’s in the State. She indicated that there is hardly any school that was not touched by the State Government with new school buildings, classroom blocks, hostels, security structures, school fence, toilets, furniture, bore holes and so on. “This is the beginning as additional projects will be delivered and commissioned on an annual basis” Adefisayo emphasized. 18-classrooms block with administrative offices, library, laboratory block, toilets, and borehole were commissioned by the Governor at Igbobi Junior College, Fazil Omar Senior High School and Iwaya Onike Girls High School, Iwaya, while he presented 18 classroom block to Akintan Junior Grammar School.
