Late Shonekan was praised by Governor Sanwo-Olu as a distinguished technocrat, seasoned administrator, and passionate leader who meritoriously served his country as a public servant during his brief stint as Nigeria’s Number One Citizen.

During his time as Head of the Interim National Government, he claimed the former elder statesman gave his best for the country by contributing to Nigeria’s progress and development.

Sanwo-Olu hailed Shonekan’s contribution to the Nigerian economy as a boardroom guru and employer of labor, particularly during his term as Chairman and Managing Director of the United Africa Company (UAC), in a condolence statement sent by his Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, on Wednesday.

The governor also expressed his condolences to the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and the entire people of the state, particularly Abeokuta indigenes, on the death of their great son and elder statesman.

He said: “On behalf of the Government and people of Lagos State, I want to express my sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and associates of Chief Ernest Shonekan.

“I pray that God will grant him eternal rest and give his immediate family, friends, associates and the people of Ogun State, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
