Football Qatar 2022 SPORTS GIST AFRICA SELECTION PROCEDURE FOR THE WORLD CUP EXPLAINED By Admin Posted on 3 weeks ago 1 min read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Farouq Oduola A. African countries, like all other countries, are making progress in their qualifying matches for the FIFA 2022 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar next year. We examine the process for selecting the five countries that will represent Africa at the World Cup. After two-legged playoffs in September 2019, Africa’s 28 lowest teams (as determined by the 2019 FIFA World Rankings) were reduced down to 14. In Round Two, the 14 winners of the 2019 Round One matches were drawn into 10 groups of four teams each at a ceremony in Cairo in January 2020, together with Africa’s top 26-ranked teams. The group stage will take place over the next three international breaks until November 2021, with the 10 group winners advancing to the third round. The five countries that will represent Africa in Qatar next year will be determined by these home-and-away playoffs, which will take place during the March 2022 international matches window.
