The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, fdc, has assured the nation that the Force will continue to battle crime and criminality while also increasing public safety and security throughout the country. The IGP gave the assurance while ordering Commissioners of Police (CPs) in all states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as their supervisory Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs), to beef up security ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, in order to avoid any untoward situation in their Areas of Responsibility (AoR) during the Eid-el-Kabir season and beyond. The IGP, specifically instructed the Zonal AIGs and State Command CPs, to take all necessary security precautions to guarantee a safe, peaceful, and incident-free celebration. They will use human and other operational assets to conduct confidence-building and crime-prevention patrols on major highways, residential and industrial districts, vulnerable spots, houses of worship, other places of public resort, and around all critical national infrastructure, among other things. The IGP further stressed that officers deployed must be professional and attentive of residents’ fundamental rights, and must carry out their duties with the utmost decorum and alertness. While congratulating the country’s Muslim faithful on the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations in 2021, the IGP stated that the Force would continue to build on recent gains in restoring security order in some areas, protecting citizens’ lives and property, and denying space for crime and criminality to thrive in and around the country. He encourages individuals to celebrate and appreciate the beauty of Eid-el-Kabir while staying vigilant about security and following COVID-19 preventive protocols. All Muslims are wished a happy and peaceful Sallah by the IGP.
