The delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympic games drew to a close after two weeks of drama, emotion, and highs and lows. Nigeria, like all teams throughout the world, had its ups and downs, but they made great progress in the games, winning two medals – a silver and a bronze. Several facts regarding Nigerian athletes and their experience in various sports were obtained over the course of two weeks, and a few of those facts are listed below: Nigeria earned bronze in the long jump for the first time in 25 years, 25 years after Chioma Ajunwa won gold in Atlanta in 1996. Nigeria’s silver medal in wrestling is the country’s first ever olympic medal in that sport. Enoch Adegoke, a Nigerian athlete, became only the third Nigerian to reach the finals of the 100 metres men’s event. Nigeria won two medals, a silver and a bronze, placing her 68th out of 205 countries and first in Africa at the Olympics. At the Tokyo Olympics, Nigerian athletes made a record five finals.
