O. Vetland Senior Grammar School, Ifako Ijaiye, has won the keenly contested Lagos State Governor’s Quiz competition, beating Amuwo Odofin Senior Secondary School, Mile 2 and Lagos State Senior Model College, Igbonla. The Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, stated today at the virtual grand finale of the competition for primary, junior, and senior secondary schools that this annual quiz competition is poised to build confidence and boost knowledge in students, thereby preparing them for the future and global opportunities. According to the Commissioner, this project will extend students’ horizons and enable them to learn new skills such as research, collaboration, and teamwork. Mrs. Adefisayo emphasized that the state administration has continued to involve pupils in a variety of competitions in order to track their academic progress. The Governor’s Quiz competition, according to the Commissioner, was established not only to checkmate students, but also to ensure that they are on top of their studies, adding that this competition will provide them with a broader scope on their main topics and general studies. Finally, the commissioner advised children in the state to commit more time to their studies in order to achieve greatness and a good future. She urged the pupils to view the competition as an opportunity to broaden their horizons. Earlier in her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Abosede Adelaja said the quiz competition is intended to focus on the three domains of education, which are; psychomotor, cognitive and affective domain. She said that the Lagos State Schools Governor’s Quiz Competition is an annual event aimed at developing the minds of kids by encouraging healthy competition among students, and that it has produced many intelligent students over the years. In the senior category, Vetland Senior Grammar School, Ifako Ijaiye was represented by Lalekan Ebere and Olabisi Divine, while Amuwo Odofin Senior Secondary School, Mile 2 was represented by Okefatiah Ogunniyi and Abolore Oluwayemisi, and Lagos State Senior Model College, Igbonla was represented by Adedokun Olonade and Abdulahi Glory. In the junior category, Topo Junior Secondary School’s Ewuche Dosu and Praise Sewedo Kehinde took first place, followed by Ijaiye Housing Estate Junior Secondary School’s Bamidele Bbatunde and Daniella Annointed and Onilekere Junior High School’s Adekunle Akindele and Marvelous Mohammed in second and third place, respectively. Imoleayo Sanni and Idowu King of Duro Oyedoyin Primary School, Surulere came first, followed by Aisaat Muhammed and Usman Famuyiwa of Baruwa Primary School, Mushin, and Grace Taiwo and Gabriel Kajola of Army Model Primary School, Ojo in the Primary Schools category. The winners will receive trophies, plaques, and gift items such as mobile tablets and school supplies at a later date.
