COMMUNITY GIST EDUCATION Lifestyle LOCAL NEWS SOCIETY GIST WASSCE: NO LATE REGISTRATION AGAIN – WAEC WARNS By Admin Posted on July 30, 2021 2 min read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin WAEC By Aishat Momoh. O. Beginning in 2022, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) will no longer allow schools to register candidates for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Mr Patrick Areghan, the Head of National Office (HNO) of WAEC, stated this in a Friday interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos. Areghan remarked against the backdrop of certain schools allegedly registering candidates late in order to shop for outsider candidates. The HNO cautioned that there would be no going back on the council’s deadlines for school candidate registration in the future. According to him, school owners must adhere to deadlines for uploading their candidates’ information for the examination. Late registration, he noted, was a huge difficulty for the council. According to the WAEC chief, the Federal Government’s education policy states that no school should enroll external applicants for WASSCE for schools. ”If a student fails a test while in school, depending on the state’s rules, he or she may be offered the opportunity to retake the exam; if not, the student should retake the exam as a private applicant. According to Areghan, schools must insist on doing ongoing assessments for children from SS1 to SS3 in order to make the system more successful. The HNO further explained, there was a collaborative effort that focused on obtaining and uploading student information from SS1 in order to preclude the registration of external candidates. This, he claims, has happened in certain schools.
