O. Willie Obiano, the governor of Anambra, has promised to appoint Prof Charles Soludo, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Following a three-week holiday abroad, he spoke on Wednesday at Umueri’s Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport. Obiano arrived at the airport with a private plane at 11:45 a.m. and was greeted by Anambra legislators led by Speaker Uche Okafor. Obiano announced that Soludo will be the new Governor to the gathering that had gathered to see him. He fled the state soon after the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) had a primary at the Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre in Awka, which resulted in Soludo’s nomination. The party has been mired in trouble since then, with two candidates fielded for the November 6 election. However, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declined to acknowledge Soludo as a candidate. Instead, the Commission named Chukwuma Umeoji as the nominee, citing a Jigawa State High Court ruling.
