Media aide to former president Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri took to social media today to blast a popular Nigerian church, Christ Apostolic Church, CAC for using of his popular quotes which he usually tag “renosnuggets” and removing his name.

This quote was used on the church’s Facebook platform known as CAC news in 2018.

The best selling author who obviously just discovered the act, expressed his disappointment over the illegal gesture from a religious organisation which puts them in bad light.

He further stated how many non-religious organisations both home and abroad used his works without ‘yanking off’ his name as the source.

He wrote;

“A church, should uphold the highest moral standards on earth. They should not plagiarise a quote and refuse to give credit to the author. US Rappers, foreign leaders, reality TV stars and others, use my #RenosNuggets quotes. Many are decent enough to acknowledge me. It is rather disappointing that Christ Apostolic Church took this worldwide and took credit for it. You have not contributed a penny to my #FreeLeahSharibu movement, or even used your considerable goodwill to promote it, yet you are exploiting my intellectual property”.

Meanwhile, some of his followers have disagreed with him over his claim as the original source of the quote;

“On this one I have my doubts. My mum used this proverb a lot while we were young. You are not the original writer because it is widespread knowledge and saying in the South East.” – Chi Di

“I doubt the Church knows the source. I also have seen this quote accredited to may people. I am surprised you are the source”.- Adetola Adeyemi

“I’ve heard that quote in different forms, although not often that “God” is used. Bitter leaf soup is very common among Igbos, we have a lot of idioms that expresses it’s uniqueness.”- Frank Obochi
