Boy Shoots Himself In Head While Taking Selfie
A teenager in India has accidentally shot himself in the head with his father’s gun while trying to take a selfie photograph.
Police said 15-year-old Ramandeep Singh was taken to hospital at Pathankot in Punjab state following the incident.
It is the latest in a series of accidents which have happened during attempts to take selfies.
Deputy police superintendentĀ Manoj Kumar said it happened when the schoolboy was playing at home with the licensed revolver, which is normally kept in a wardrobe.
“The boy’s father and family said that he was trying to take a selfie with his gun,” he said.
“We think that part of the blame obviously goes to the father for not keeping his loaded gun under lock and key at their home.”
Police initially said the teen was expected to survive, however The Indian Express has reported that he later succumbed to his injuries.
In January, police in the western city of Mumbai moved to crack down on dangerous selfies after a man drowned trying to save a girl who fell into the sea while snapping one.
Officers identified 16 dangerous selfie spots in Mumbai, and asked the local council to put up warning signs and deploy lifeguards.
Also in January, a 20-year-old fell to his death while taking a selfie from on top of theĀ ReasiĀ fort in Jammu and Kashmir.
In February, a teenager was run over and killed in the southern city ofĀ Chennai as he tried to take a selfie in front of an oncoming train.
And in April, a man was seriously injured by an elephant when he tried to snap a selfie with the chained animal at a festival in Kerala, according to the Hindustan Times.
