Ihenacho, Iwobi and Akpom score as Arsenal sink Manchester City
Nigeria’s Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi and Chuba Akpom were on target as Arsenal defeated cross-city rivals Manchester City 3-2 in a friendly game played at the Ullevi Stadium, Gothenburg.
Pep Guardiola’s men took the lead in the 30th minute courtesy Sergio Aguero who turned in Raheem Sterling’s cross.
Iwobi leveled scores for the Gunners after beating Joe Hart in goal for the Citizens – thanks to a beautiful work from Theo Walcott who got the second for Arsene Wenger’s side.
It was the turn of Akpom to register his name on the scorers’ sheet after replacing Alexis Sanchez. His 85th minute pulled the game beyond the reach of the Etihad Stadium outfit.
And with three minutes left to play, Iheanacho who had replaced Aguero headed home Jesus Navas’ cross to reduce the deficit for his side.
Manchester City begin their English Premier League campaign on August 13 when they host Sunderland, while Arsenal kick off their campaign at the Emirates Stadium versus Liverpool.
