Saraki Urges Nigerians to Patronize Nigerian Goods
The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, said yesterday that Nigerians must patronise Nigerian made goods in order to develop the economy, emphasising that ‘Senate cannot legislate patriotism’.
He said this at the Made-in-Nigeria Festival at Eko Atlantic City, Lagos.
Dr. Bukola Saraki, who was represented by Senator Eyinaya Abaribe, who is known for the Made-in-Aba initiative spoke on the topic: ‘’Legislative Agenda for the Main Economy’’.
Senator Abaribe said ‘’There is need for Nigerians to begin to look inwards as far as locally made goods are concerned. The senate since inception have maintained they will always put Nigeria first. Once the procurement Act gets signed into law by Mr. President, people would have to first demand for made in Nigeria goods before they look elsewhere.
‘’We have also urged Mr. President not to wait for the legislators but to take steps to compel people to buy Nigerian made goods. People from the public sector must be made to demand for these made in Nigeria goods too,’’ he said.
Also speaking as panellists were Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, Ms. Sola Salako, Founder Consumer Protection Group, Mr. Wale, Edun Chairman Chapel Hill Denham, Dr. Muiz Banire, National Legal Adviser APC, Mrs Oyinkan- Badejo as the moderator.
During the question and answer session of the summit, senator Ben Bruce was asked by the moderator if he had been ‘’diluted’’ as many people in certain quarters do no longer see him as the activist he used to be. Senator Bruce in his response said ‘’I am not ‘diluted’; I am still a radical.’’
