NMA Begins Strike in Benue
Nigeria’s NMA Medical Association, the Benue State chapter, on Thursday declared an indefinite strike following the expiration of a previous seven-day warning strike that expired last Wednesday.
State Health Commissioner, Dr. Cecilia Ojabo, said the strike was politically motivated, illegal, uncalled for, and a calculated attempt to sabotage government health care efforts
Meanwhile, in a statement declaring the strike, signed by the president and secretary of the NMA, Dr. Obekpa Obekpa and Dr. Nwaeze Chukwuemeka, respectively, the body expressed its dissatisfaction with the supposed subversive roles of some of its members in the course of the warning strike, and has been referred to the disciplinary committee of the association for necessary action.

It was reported that University Provost Ms. Aisha Kazaure had slapped one of the principals, Hajia Halima, for insisting that she (the Provost) deliver the affairs of the Nursing Directorate to Halima, which resulted in the physical assault.
The strike notice was contained in a statement issued in Dutse, yesterday by Abdullahi Adamu and Garba Adamu, President of NANNM and President of CONAMASU, respectively.
