Mother Strangles Daughter For Reciting Bible Verses Incorrectly
A Pennsylvania mother who beat her young daughter and then kicked the girl out of the house for incorrectly reciting Bible verses is heading to prison.
Rhonda Shoffner was sentenced to two and a half to five years in state prison after pleading guilty to aggravated assault, strangulation, endangering the welfare of a child and terroristic threats.
The 41-year-old mother will also serve five years of probation after she’s released from prison, according to Fox 43.
Shoffner was arrested in March after her daughter, who is under the age of 13, told police her mom attacked her and then threatened to kill her,
Police said Shoffner was drunk when she told her daughter to get on her knees in the bathroom because the girl couldn’t reach family members on the phone.
The girl told officers that she knew she was going to get beaten and begged her mom to stop.
Shoffner made the child get on her knees anyway and then recited Bible verses, telling her daughter to repeat them word for word.
Whenever the girl messed up, Shoffner would slam the child’s head against the wall.
Police said that happened about five times. She then demanded the girl lay on her back and proceeded to choke and bite her daughter while threatening to kill her.
Shoffner told the girl “leave and don’t ever come back.”
The child told police she ran from the home and called her father, who took her to the police station.
