LAGOS BLACKOUT TO CONTINUE INDEFINITELY

Contrary to the official statement by Ikeja Electric Plc that parts of Lagos metropolis will be without power supply from Friday, November 3 to Friday, November 10; hotjist.com can confirm that the affected areas are still without power supply as at today Saturday, November 11.
Business outlets and homes within the affected areas have been complaining about the high amounts of money they have been spending on alternate sources of energy.
“I spend at least N1,000 per day on fuel for my generating set” said Mr. Jide Samson who is a cobbler in one of the affected areas. He went further to say that the development has eaten deep into the little profit margin he makes on his business. He further went on say that he cannot make any profit from his sales within the period.
Other residents said they have finding it hard to keep perishable food items and have suffered much wastage within the period.
Several other business owners had tales of woe due to the total blackout situation.
Security in the affected neighbourhoods is also major concern for some because all streets are totally dark in the night thus making it conducive for social miscreants to perpetrate evil activities.
When hotjist.com correspondent called the Ikeja Electric Plc customer service center; the agent who picked the call said that they do not have a confirmed date yet when power supply will be restored to the afftected areas. She went further to add that their engineers are still on the field trying to resolve all issues.
The blackout, the electricity distribution firm said, would be experienced between November 3 to 10.
In an earlier statement before the total blackout commenced; Ikeja Electric Plc Head, Corporate Communications, Felix Ofulue,  said the outage is part of the strategic efforts to improve power supply to consumers across the network  and that it will last from November 3 to November 10.
Mr. Ofulue said that the company would carry out a complete rehabilitation of Maryland Injection Substation, adding that this would involve the replacement of obsolete switch gear panels at the switch room.
He said: “Power supply will be restored immediately after the completion of the exercise.
Mr. Ofulue added that Ikeja Electric Plc had put in place arrangements to ensure that the rehabilitation was completed within the stipulated time.
According to Mr. Ofulue, the rehabilitation will affect power supply to areas like Mende, Anthony, Maryland , Ikeja GRA , Shonibare Estate, parts of Ojota, Ketu , Ikosi, as well as Demurin and environs.
