Anthony Ujah Fails To Impress Rohr As Leon Balogun Shines For Mainz
The chances of Mainz 05 forward Anthony Ujah earning a recall to the
Super Eagles was dealt another blow after his cameo appearance in
their 2-0 win over Hertha Berlin.
Ujah was pencilled down for further assessment by coach of the Super
Eagles Gernot Rohr with the game part of the games the coach plan to
use in assessing the forward following his return to Europe, according
to Owngoal.
However he was introduced late into the game, and didn’t even have a
feel of the ball before the final whistle was blown to bring the game
to an end, and that could possibly end his dreams of a national team
recall as Rohr who is in Germany saw the game.
In the same game Super Eagles reliable defender Leon Balogun made a
rare start for Mainz 05 and posted a strong performance despite
picking up a booking three minutes after the half hour mark.
Balogun has been in and out of the line up at Mainz 05 with many
suggesting his contract issues at the club, where he will be able to
walk away as a free agent in the summer the reason behind his not too
active role at the club.
German-born Nigerian defender Jordan Torunarigha was also on show for
Hertha Berlin but couldn’t stop his side from suffering a 0-2 defeat.
He is a German youth international but he qualifies to represent
Nigeria through his father Ojokojo Torunarigha.
