Super Falcons Outscore Mali To Claim WAFU Women’s Cup Bronze
The Super Falcons of Nigeria have won bronze at the WAFU Women’s Cup of Nations after defeating Mali 2-1 in the third place match in Abidjan on Saturday.
Fatoumata Diarra handed the Malians the lead with in the ninth minute before Chinaza Uchendu scored a brace in the 15th and 39th minutes to put Nigeria ahead.
Uchendu was denied her hat-trick after her 89th minute goal was disallowed.
However, Uchendu was named the woman of the match at the end of the game for her brace.
The Super Falcons had lost on penalties to perennial rivals Ghana in the semi-finals, while Mali were defeated by hosts Cote d’Ivoire.
