Zamfara to build State varsity after 22years
Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State has said that the state is ready to establish a university, 22 years after it was created.
The governor said this on Monday in Abuja after receiving a formal letter of recognition from the National Universities Commission to establish the university at Talata Marafa.
Announcing that the Zamfara State Government had set aside the sum of N3bn as a take-off grant for the establishment of the university, Yari noted that N1bn had also been earmarked for staff training, N1bn for the procurement of equipment while N1bn would serve as stabilisation fund.
He said, “Almost 22 years since the creation of our state, Zamfara is the only state in the federation without a state-owned university. The proposed university will take off by the 2018/2019 academic session. The earmarked funds demonstrate the commitment we have in establishing and sustaining the university.
“In order to address the manpower need of the state in medical sciences and other critical sectors, where we have shortage of personnel, the university will give emphasis to medical and allied sciences during the first phase of its development.”
