The Spice Girls were ‘never invited, and never asked to perform’ at the Royal Wedding, band member Mel C has claimed.
During an interview with Australian radio programĀ Fitzy & WippaĀ on Thursday, the 44-year-old was asked about the band’s connection toĀ Prince HarryĀ andĀ Meghan Markle.
‘I should clear up the invitation part of it – we were never invited!’ she said adamantly, contradicting claims made by fellow group memberĀ Mel B.
Before her reveal, radio hosts Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald and Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli were under the impression that Mel C had been invited.
‘Let’s talk about you and the invitation to the Royal Wedding, and how you know the royals,’ Wippa said.
But Mel rubbished the rumours, denying the ’90s girl band was ever scheduled to perform at, or attend, the event.
The program’s producer Sarah McGilvray then asked: ‘So you’re not performing? And you’re not going as guest?’
‘No. We were never invited, we were never asked to perform… and I was a little bit annoyed, actually!’ she replied.
Mel C admitted that she was considering confronting Prince Charles about the snub at the Prince’s Trust Awards in March.
‘I was here in London and I was doing the Prince’s Trust Awards… it’s always nice to see Prince Charles, we do have some history,’ she recalled.
‘You know, back in the day with the girls and the bottom pinch and the lipstick on the face, so it is nice to see Charles, he’s a lovely, lovely man.’
Mel C added: ‘But I felt like going “Oy! Where’s my invite?”‘
After the Spice Girls reunited earlier this year, fans were certain the band would appear at the Royal Wedding and likely perform at the reception.
Mel B then fuelled the rumours when she appeared on US chat show The RealĀ in February.
When asked if she knew anyone who was attending the ceremony, she nodded before mouthing: ‘Yeah, I’m going’
She quickly added: ‘I don’t know if I should’ve said that!’
Mel B was pressed for information about any further guests, and she responded: ‘Well us five Spice Girls… why am I so honest?’
Mel C was quick to deny these claims at the time, but many fans thought she was just trying to keep their performance under wraps.
‘I think Mel was just kind of having a bit of a joke. There are no plans to go to the wedding at the moment,’ she said at the Prince’s Trust Awards.
Just days ago, multiple reports suggested that Elton John, 71, will be the sole artist to perform at the wedding reception.
According to the New York Post, only Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton and Geri Horner were invited.
The publication’s source added: ‘So clearly, the Spice Girls were never going to perform.’
