Records tumbled in spectacular fashion on Monday as England thrashed Panama by six goals to one in their World Cup group stage clash.

Goals from Harry Kane (3), John Stones (2) and Jesse Lingard sealed England’s biggest ever World Cup victory – one of several records to be broken by the Three Lions.

Below is a look at the other achievements that Southgate’s men ticked off the list with their emphatic display against Panama.

1. England’s Biggest Ever World Cup Win

The emphatic victory over Panama on Sunday was England’s biggest ever win at a World Cup.

The last time the Three Lions won by more than three goals was the 1966 final against Germany (which England won 4-2, in case you’d forgotten).

While many remain pessimistic due to the calibre of the opposition, it is still no mean feat to secure a record World Cup victory for your country.

2. England’s Highest Scoring World Cup Game of the 21st Century

The match was also England’s highest scoring World Cup game of the 21st century.

A hattrick from Harry Kane, plus a brace from John Stones and a stunning effort from Jesse Lingard secured the victory as records began to tumble for the Three Lions in Russia.

The victory builds even more momentum heading into the final group game against Belgium on Thursday, with a place in the last 16 already secured with two victories out of two.

3. First England World Cup (Non-Shootout) Penalty Scored Since 2002

Plenty has been made of the awful record that England have with penalties at major tournaments. Even though most of that criticism has come after infamous shootouts, penalties in open play have also been a problem for the Three Lions.

The first of Harry Kane’s two penalties today was the first non-shootout penalty to be scored by an English player at the World Cup since David Beckham’s strike from the spot in 2002 against Argentina.

4. Harry Kane Becomes Third Englishman to Score World Cup Hat-trick

As if his last twelve months weren’t good enough already, Harry Kane joined another elite group of footballers when he completed his hat-trick against Panama.

He became only the third ever Englishman to score three times in a World Cup game. He joins Geoff Hurst, who scored a hat-trick in the 1966 final; and Gary Lineker, who bagged three in 1986; on the list.

Kane now leads the race for the golden boot, and you wouldn’t put it past the Spurs man to add to his tally before the end of this summer’s tournament.

5. First Time England Have Scored Five Goals in First Half of a World Cup Game

England were rampant in the first half, dispatching any chances that came their way. In the process, they were sending a warning message to their future opponents. The Three Lions can be clinical in attack and this England squad are not to be underestimated.

The game was wrapped up by the half time whistle, with two conceded penalties not helping Panama’s cause at all. However, Kane still had to step up and finish both of them, which he did with ease.

6. First Time England Have Scored 4+ Goals At WC Since 1966 Final

If ever there was an omen that England will win this year’s World Cup, we may just have found it.

Today marked the first time that England have scored four or more goals in a World Cup game since the final in 1966, which the Three Lions famously went on to win.

Having had no success at any major tournaments since then, this record could be an omen…could football well and truly be coming home?
