RAPE ALLEGATION: JUVE BACK CRISTIANO RONALDO
Joseph Omoniyi
Juventus have broken their silence on the rape allegations against their star player, Cristiano Ronaldo, insisting these events “do not change the opinion” of the player.
The Ballon d’Or winner is the subject of a re-opened investigation in Las Vegas from 2009 and his accuser’s lawyers held a Press conference last night.
The legal team for Kathryn Mayorga said they could release some of the evidence from the case, including a rape kit and questionnaire seemingly filled out by Ronaldo.
While Ronaldo has firmly denied all the allegations, Juventus have until now stayed silent, but released a statement via Twitter this evening.
“Cristiano Ronaldo has shown in recent months his great professionalism and dedication, which is appreciated by everyone at Juventus.
“The events allegedly dating back to almost 10 years ago do not change this opinion, which is shared by anyone who has come into contact with this great champion.”
There are growing reports sponsors and charities, such as EA Sports and Save the Children, are considering dropping Ronaldo due to the allegations.
